Staying Safe Online

At Grove House School we believe it is very important to keep the message in our young people’s minds of how to conduct yourself safely online.

Always be careful when you are using the internet. It can help you to keep in touch with your friends and help your education – but it can also cause harm – to you and to others.

Remember help is always available at school if you are having any problems online.

Don’t be afraid to talk to your teacher or another adult at school.

We learn about SMART guidance at school:

S – Safe: Keep your personal information safe.

M – Meeting: Don’t meet up.

A – Acceptable: Only accept something from someone you know well.

R – Reliable: Only use reliable sources.

T – Tell: Tell an adult if you feel uncomfortable online.

In this area of our school website you will find advice and guidance for both our young people and parent/carers on how to keep young people safe when enjoying time online. Online means using any device that is interacting with the internet, this can be a smart watch or mobile phone to a personal computer or laptop.

Tips for staying safe online:

  • Make sure you keep new online friends strictly online. If someone you don't know asks to be your online friend you must ensure an adult knows about it.

  • If something doesn't feel right or worries you: STOP. PAUSE. THINK. Always tell a trusted adult.

  • Know how to use the CEOP Button and how to report it to the CEOP Centre if you are concerned about someone’s online behaviour towards you.
