Lower School Overview
Lower School Curriculum Summary
At Grove House our intention is that we deliver:
A curriculum to support pupils to recognise and achieve their full potential academically, personally and socially, preparing them for independent successful lives.
The Lower School curriculum at Grove House covers the National Curriculum subjects with differentiated schemes of work, as required for our pupils with SLCN.
Pupils have daily English and Maths lessons in addition to a timetable covering Science, ICT, PE , Humanities, Art, Music, Drama, Technology, Yoga and PSHE.
Reading is taught throughout the curriculum with targeted sessions on phonics following the Sound Discovery programme, along with additional reading sessions targeted to individuals.
Pupils are encouraged to read independently across the curriculum and opportunities to read aloud to different audiences are maximised.
Pupils have both language and social skills sessions weekly which are delivered in class and led by a speech and language therapist.
A “Games” session is timetabled weekly which is led by a PE teacher and overseen by an Occupational Therapist where pupils are able to work on fine/gross motor skills and develop their regulation strategies.
Pupils also benefit from weekly yoga sessions which develop pupils’ core strength, focus, concentration and regulation strategies leading to increased well-being.
